CHARLEMONT — In night two of its annual town meeting, voters backed all three of the amendments for the Mohawk Trail Regional School District regional agreement.

These will respectively allow preschool assessment costs to be added to the assessment formula for member towns with elementary students in Mohawk schools, enable Rowe to rejoin the regional district as a ninth member town for Grades 7 through 12, and allow the district to change the regional agreement in the future by a two-thirds majority instead of unanimous approval by town-meeting votes.

To date, all member towns that have voted on Mohawk’s regional agreement amendments have OK’d the “cleanup” agreement, which eliminates obsolete language and adds preschool to assessment calculations.

All except Heath have voted in favor of allowing changes to the regional agreement to be approved by a two-thirds majority vote, instead of requiring unanimous approval by member towns. Heath passed over the article allowing Rowe to join the district and is to take it up at a special town meeting.

Also, Colrain hasn’t yet voted on the article regarding pre-K assessments or on the Rowe article. Those two issues are to be taken up at a June 20 special town meeting.

At press time, residents were debating a $376,150 debt exclusion that would allow the Highway, Police and Fire departments to acquire new and used vehicles, along with fire hoses and Scott Air packs for firefighters.
