GREENFIELD — Memorial Day is a time to remember those killed serving in America’s military, but police stress that accidents never take holidays.
Greenfield Police Lt. William Gordon said any three-day weekend produces a spike in traffic, but it will be increased by the StrangeCreek Campout at Camp Kee-Wanee off Leyden Road. Gordon said his department will have extra police cruisers in the area to deal with traffic from the three-day music festival.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation encourages people to travel during low-volume times on major roadways, typically between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and take advantage of technology tools for drivers. People can dial 511 and select a route to hear real-time conditions, or visit mass511.com.
