NORTHFIELD — A longtime teacher and assistant principal at Pioneer Valley School said he’s hanging up his hat for good in August.
Mike Duprey, the former interim principal at the school, announced Friday he’ll retire before the beginning of next school year, but will stay on long enough to train the next principal.
“He’s been here a really long time,” said Superintendent Ruth Miller. “The kids at the school absolutely love him. We really wish him well.”
Duprey has worked for the school in a few different capacities, including as the athletic director, assistant principal and teacher for 26 years. He has served as interim principal a few times, and also started the school’s football team.
“He knew the kids and the school,” Miller added. “He has built wonderful relationships with the kids, and he will be missed.”
