GREENFIELD — The principal of the Academy of Early Learning will shift down the street and up a few grades to take on the same position at the Discovery School at Four Corners.
Jake Toomey, who is also the School Department’s assistant to the superintendent for personnel, has accepted the position.
The interview process consisted of multiple rounds of interviews, with the first round including an eight-member team of parents, teachers, the current principal, Suzanne Sullivan, and other school- and district-based administrators. School Committee Chairman Tim Farrell also participated in the interview process as a future Four Corners parent and school committee member.
Two candidates were recommended for consideration, and these finalists were interviewed in a follow-up interview with the superintendent.
“Mr. Toomey has done a remarkable job of balancing these two demanding positions this year, and has made positive strides at the Academy of Early Learning in improving family communication, building positive school culture, and ensuring student safety,” said Superintendent Jordana Harper of the appointment. “As his supervisor, I have been impressed with his hard work, inclusive communication style with both families and staff, and commitment to our students.”
Toomey is a Greenfield resident and a parent of three children in the Greenfield public schools. He previously taught art at Four Corners, where he completed an administrative practicum, and at the Math and Science Academy.
“I am very excited to rejoin the Discovery School at Four Corners and once again work with a great group of professional educators, and look forward to an exciting and engaging year,” Toomey said.
He’ll leave both of his current positions to take on the new job, and the district will hire new employees for those roles.
Toomey starts at Four Corners July 1.
