I’m writing to The Recorder because I wanted to thank the person who drove into my fence. I was on my way home from a relaxing five days with my grandkids in Georgia when you (whoever you are) took the turn at the bottom of Wisdom Way a tad too wide and reconfigured my front yard.

But I want to thank you for a variety of reasons.

In addition to updating my curb appeal, you also showed great wisdom, understanding that I had just been thinking how nice it would be to get home to do some work around the house, besides the ordinary spring chores — painting, gardening and the long list of ho-hum seasonal general maintenance.

But not only that. Somehow you knew that I needed the broken fencing for firewood, needed a place to spend the money I had to take from my 401k, knew that the shrubs in front of the fence needed replanting anyway, and that the hosta behind the fence were getting too tall and needed to be flattened. I know you must be a very busy person or else you’d have stopped, but if you are ever back in the neighborhood, please stop by and see the results of your thoughtfulness.

You have reminded me of two excellent adages of which I am fond: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, and my favorite: What goes around, comes around.
