SHELBURNE FALLS — With its new season starting later this month, the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum is now seeking volunteers to help with trolley car operations and with ticket sales, carpentry and ground maintenance.

For those who are interested, the Trolley Museum will hold a “training day,” Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Training will include hands-on and classroom training for all trolley and pump car crew members. The day is geared to requalifying returning crew members, but new volunteers should attend as well. The program will cover safety issues, the proper operation of Trolley Car No. 10, the pump car, and talk about passenger care. Also, volunteers need to ba about to tell guests about the history of No. 10.

Alden Dreyer, the museum’s safety and instruction supervisor and crew dispatcher, the museum needs motormen and conductors on weekends, beginning Memorial Day weekend until the end of October.

The day is split in half, so volunteers can be there for 3½ hours or for 7 hours. The conductor is in charge of the car and responsible for passenger safety. The motormen operates the car in a safe and careful way. Conductors give a five-minute talk at the end of the line on the history of the trolley operations and answers questions.

Women and men may serve as motormen. For more information, visit the Trolley Museum website: www.sftm.org or call Sam Bartlett at 413-624-0192. Lunch will be provided for all attending the session. If you plan to attend, please email: trolley@sftm.org. Put SFTM in the subject line with your name and a brief message about your interests, and a place will be found for you.
