GREENFIELD — A 56-year-old Greenfield man was ordered held without bail following his arraignment in Greenfield District Court Wednesday on charges of indecent assault and battery and assault and battery on a household member for a subsequent offense.
Steven Arthur Giannetti of Norwood Street is being held without right to bail until a secure continuous remote alcohol monitor — typically a bracelet that fits around a defendant’s ankle that detects alcohol consumption — becomes available. He was also ordered to abstain from alcohol with screens, stay away and have no contact with the alleged victims and comply with the SCRAM unit.
According to a report by Greenfield Detective Sgt. Daniel McCarthy, Giannetti was summoned to court after police learned from one of the alleged victims, a woman who had been living with Giannetti after separating from her ex-husband, that he had allegedly groped her in her sleep multiple times.
According to the report, the victim also told police Giannetti had taken her phone and sent himself two nude photos of her that she had on the device.
He has been charged with two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older.
Giannetti was also summoned to court on a charge of assault and battery on a household member for a subsequent offense after police were dispatched to his residence for a domestic disturbance last month, according to a report by Greenfield police officer Michael McDowell.
Upon arrival, McDowell wrote officers saw a woman sitting in a chair in the side yard with a swollen eye and cut on her nose. She told police Giannetti had hit her two days ago, according to the report, and the incident that day was only verbal. However, when police followed up several days later, the alleged victim — who is not the same woman as in the indecent assault and battery case — denied that any physical abuse had occurred, according to the report.
McDowell noted in the report that the woman’s behavior was consistent with a victim of domestic violence who is dependent on her batterer.
Giannetti is due back in court May 17 for a pretrial conference.
