Turners Falls Fishway
Spring on the Connecticut River offers an unrivaled opportunity to witness the migration of shad, sea lamprey and other anadromous fish. A visit to the Turners Falls Fishway provides an opportunity to learn about these amazing journeys. Admission is free. The Turners Falls Fishway will be open from May 11 through June 19, Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are also open May 30, Memorial Day. The Fishway is located on First Street, off Avenue A.
Barton Cove and Its Wonders
On Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., join leaders from the Pioneer Valley Institute Nancy Goodman, a naturalist, Ed Gregory, a historian of local events, Richard Little, a local geologist, for a wonderful spring day along the Connecticut River. Barton Cove is filled with unusual geology, spring wildflowers, local history and dinosaur prints. Bring your lunch and water for the two-mile hike along the forested and rocky trails to the end of the peninsula. The hike is not accessible. Price is $10 per person. Cabot Station 100-Year Retrospective
Take a look back in time at the ongoing exhibit, “Vintage Powerhouse: Cabot Station — One Hundred Year Retrospective” at Great Falls Discover Center on Avenue A in Turners Falls. Cabot Station Open House Tours
Relive history as you walk through the Cabot Station during its 100th anniversary guided tour on Saturday, June 11, and Sunday, June 12. Tours begin at 10 a.m., 10:30, 11, 11:30, noon and 12:30 p.m. Close-toed shoes (no sandals) and photo ID are required. The tour route includes some uneven footing and several flights of narrow stairs. A Cabot Station turbine floor tour, scheduled at noon, is appropriate for anyone with limited mobility.
