ERVING — Voters selected Scott Bastarache for a three-year term on the Selectboard on Wednesday.

An Erving resident of about 10 years, Bastarache beat incumbent Arthur Johnson and George Moonlight Davis in the election with 124 votes. Johnson came in second with 75 votes, and Davis third with 51 votes.

The election had a 24 percent turnout, said Town Clerk Richard Newton.

Prior to winning a seat on the Selectboard, Bastarache served on the School Committee in town for seven years in several roles and was the chairman of the Union 28 Joint Supervisory Committee, chairman of the Union 28 Budget and Personnel Subcommittee and chairman of the Union 28 Strategic Development Subcommittee.

He promises to promote transparency in town government and include residents in every decision that town officials make.

Bastarache has also served as a coach for youth sports through the Erving Recreation Committee.

In the one other contested race on Wednesday, write-in candidate Mark Burnett won a three-year term on the board of assessors with 77 votes. Linda Downs-Bembury got 49 votes and Bruce Scott got 14 votes.
