GREENFIELD — This year’s Franklin County Gay 5K and 1-Mile Walk will kick off on the Town Common Friday at 6 p.m.
The event is a celebration and recognition of the LGBTQ community on the eve of Northampton’s Pride Festival. It was founded in 2014 as the Greenfield Pride Run.
There will be race directors along the route to monitor runners, as well as a water station at the end of the run. The community is encouraged to celebrate at Seymour pub and Magpie pizzeria after the event.
Also to be unveiled at the Gay 5K will be a special fundraising T-shirt, which features a graphic of the Poets Seat Tower with the words, “Greenfield Massachusetts-No Place for Hate.” All profits from the T-shirts will go the Human Rights Commission to promote diversity programming in Greenfield.
For more information or to buy a T-shirt, contact Town Councilor Karen “Rudy” Renaud at renaudforgreenfield@gmail.com.
