BUCKLAND — Voters approved a nearly $300,000 debt exclusion by a wide margin at Monday’s town election.
There were no contested positions on the ballot, and voter turnout was light, with about 8 percent — or 105 out of the town’s 1,269 voters — coming to the polls.
By a 75-27 vote, voters approved a $295,292 Proposition 2½ debt exclusion that will be used to pay for the town’s share of asbestos abatement, floor replacement, brick repairs and other work at the Buckland Shelburne Elementary School. A debt exclusion temporarily raises tax rates until the project is paid off.
Shelburne voters will decide whether to fund their end of the project later this month.
A slate of incumbents and two newcomers were elected to office in Buckland’s annual town election Monday.
Kevin P. Fox won re-election to his three-year Selectboard seat.
Also re-elected to three-year terms were: Assessor Marion E. Scott; Buckland Library Trustee George L. Dole; two Finance Committee members Karen Blom and Paula Consolo; Mohawk Trail Regional School District Committee member Martha J. Thurber; and Constable Arthur Henry Phillips.
Town Moderator Phoebe Walker won re-election to her one-year post.
Jeffrey A. Purinton of Bray Road is the new tree warden, and Martha P. Taft-Ferguson of Martin Road received a three-year seat on the Board of Health.
