DEERFIELD — The Selectboard plans to recommend voters take no action on a special town meeting article pertaining to a sewer bylaw.

The article asks voters to revoke a section of town bylaws and allow “funding capital improvement of the public sewers through means other than assessment of sewer use fees …”

The special town meeting and the annual town meeting are slated for 7 p.m. at Frontier Regional School on Monday.

Some residents have said they dislike the wording of the article. They worry its approval could force them to pay for a sewer system they do not use, through taxes. The system has always been funded through sewer fees.

Interim Town Administrator Douglas C. Finn told The Recorder there has been discussion about establishing a committee to explore options related to sewer upgrades and maintenance. He said an article cannot be withdrawn once published on a town meeting warrant.

Selectboard member Carolyn Shores Ness said she supports taking no action on the article because she feels it is premature.
