DEERFIELD — A Hadley man is facing charges of drunken driving and possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle after allegedly crashing his truck in front of police on Saturday.
According to a police report by officer Jacob Eugin, Justin T. Slysz, 24, was driving on River Road around 11:23 p.m., when Eugin witnessed Slysz’s grey pickup truck crash into a guardrail. No injuries were reported and Slysz was able to get out of the vehicle on his own.
Slysz told police that he had fallen asleep at the wheel. He also stated that he had four beers around 5:30 p.m.
According to the report, Slysz’s eyes were bloodshot and he had a moderate odor of alcohol on his breath. Additionally, police found an open can of Bud Light beer in his truck, in addition to an 18-pack of the aforementioned beer missing three cans, according to the report.
A breath test showed Slysz had a blood alcohol content of 0.144 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent. Slysz was placed under arrest and charged with operating under the influence, having an open container of alcohol and operating to endanger.
Slysz was released on his own recognizance following his arraignment in Greenfield District Court Wednesday and is due back in court for a pretrial conference May 6.
