NEW SALEM – A fire on the porch of a house was quickly knocked down early Tuesday morning in New Salem, according to Fire Chief Joe Cuneo.
The fire broke out around 2:11 a.m. on the porch of a house at 626 Daniel Shays Highway, Cuneo said. Firefighters from New Salem, Erving, Shutesbury, Orange, Wendell and Montague were able to quickly put it out, sparing the main structure from any major damage.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time and remains under investigation, Cuneo said.
