WARWICK — Firefighters saved a barn after a permitted brush fire got out of hand on Wednesday.
Warwick Fire Chief Ron Gates said the call came in at roughly 11:50 a.m. and firefighters extinguished the blaze at 344 Orange Road in about a half-hour. There were no injuries.
Gates said the fire entered the barn, where it ignited some stored hay, on the property owner’s land. The fire seemed headed to a building on a neighboring property on Kirk Road when it was extinguished, the chief said. The Orange Fire Department also responded.
Property owner Paul Hadsel said he started a small brush fire and went to get a bucket of water when a single spark got loose. He said the fire department did well to prevent any damage or injuries.
Gates said the dampened ground from the recent rainfall likely slowed the fire’s progress.
