Jon Bos’ “My Turn” essay, “It can Happen Here: Parallels between Trump and Hitler” (March 24) highlights the sad truth that wisdom does not necessarily come with age. To make such cliched and broad-sweeping generalizations serves more to trivialize than to promote intelligent dialogue about important contemporary events. As a result, Mr Bos’ diatribe sounds more like a desperate, grasping high school debate student than an astute, mature adult voicing a measured and well reasoned opinion about a fellow American be happens to disagree with. Worthwhile causes are seldom advanced through the use of reckless, hysterical language and hyperbolic historical comparisons. Mr. Trump may not be Mr. Bos’ choice of presidential candidate, but he certainly doesn’t deserve to be likened to the diabolical fuhrer.
