Heath special town meeting Tuesday

HEATH — Several money transfers will be requested at a special town meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Community Hall.

The financial articles include: a transfer of $50,000 into the Tropical Storm Irene Expense Account; to transfer $11,425 from “free cash” to the town’s legal fees account.

Three articles move money saved during this year’s relatively light winter into other Highway Department budgets: $2,638 from winter highway wages will be moved into the winter equipment maintenance and repair account; $4,585 will be moved from the vehicle, gas and oil account into the Highway Department materials account, and $37,000 will be transferred from winter salt/sand account into the machinery maintenance and supplies account.

Singley building hearing Thursday

SHELBURNE — The new owners of the former Singley Furniture building will come to the Zoning Board of Appeals on Thursday, April 7, for a public hearing on their request to raze the old building and replace it with a new structure on the corner of Bridge Street and Deerfield Avenue. The hearing begins at 8:15 p.m.

Building owners Josh Simpson, Cady Coleman, Susan and Jon Stark, doing business as Ancient Glacier LLC, bought the building at auction over a year ago, but found the old, deteriorated structure to be beyond repair. The group is seeking permission to take down the three-story building on the non-conforming lot and use the building footprint to build a new, two-story structure that would have retail shops on the first floor and apartments on the second floor.
