ORANGE — Arraigned Friday in Orange District Court, James A. Snow is to be held without bail on domestic assault and battery charges.

Snow, 49, of Summit Street pleaded innocent Friday to assault and battery on a person age 60 or greater and disabled, intimidating a witness, assault and battery on a household member, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

According to the report filed by Orange police officer Timothy Powling, he was dispatched to Snow’s address after a call from Snow’s ex-girlfriend, reporting that he had hit his current girlfriend and broken her jaw.

With no response at the door, Powling wrote, he forced the outer door to the apartment building and saw Snow inside, through his apartment door window. Snow opened the door, then closed it on Powling’s shoulder, Powling wrote, and Snow was cuffed after a scuffle in the kitchen with two police officers.

Snow’s alleged victim repeatedly denied that he had hit her, attributing her swollen face and scratched neck to a fall down the stairs and to her absent cats.
