Brief thoughts on some of the events making news in Franklin County and the North Quabbin area:

With significant changes in Shea Theater management and recent renovation, the pathway is getting cleared so that the venue will become a more popular community entertainment destination for Turners Falls. But there’s more work to be done. A new online fundraiser is underway to buy new stage lighting and sound equipment, a necessity for what’s envisioned for the Shea. The goal is $50,000, which isn’t a small amount of money. Helping the Shea reach this goal would signal that the area sees the Shea as an important part not only of the entertainment scene but also of the community as a whole. Hunting up a meal at the tech school

The recent dinner put on by Franklin County Technical School’s Fins Feather and Fur Club was certainly not for vegetarians or even those who might be squeamish about trying unusual fare, like squirrel or moose. But the Wild Harvest Dinner is more than just serving up dishes that aren’t normally on a menu somewhere. Culinary students are involved, for example in meal preparation and cooking. And from a recent Recorder story, it appears that the meal is a hit with those involved and those who attend.

GHS home meets may have to wait

Greenfield High School’s brand new track is one of the jewels associated with the new school building. But if people were planning to attend a boys or girls track meet there this spring, it’s now looking like they’ll have to wait. Although the actual track and a couple of field event areas are ready for competition, the field still needs time for the grass to mature. Understandable to a point, but no less disappointing for the athletes, their coaches and fans who have been waiting for home meets in Greenfield for a number of years. If there’s any way that a meet could happen this season, we know that the students and supporters would be grateful.
