Artists

NEW MEMBER INVITATION, SAWMILL RIVER ARTS is an arts collaborative seeking new member artists. If you are a fine artist or fine craftsperson looking to grow your artistic practice, then you should talk with us.  

SRA includes supportive potters, jewelers, fiber artists, photographers, painters and others expanding their creativity and offering their work for purchase in a beautiful gallery space located on the Sawmill River in Montague Center.

Interested in knowing more? Visit the gallery to see how your work might fit in. Open hours are: Monday and Wednesday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday through Sunday noon to 6 p.m. SRA closed on Tuesday.

Space may be available for one new wall artist, one new shelf artist and perhaps more.

There is a monthly membership fee, a commitment for staffing, committee work and a monthly meeting.

Auditions

AUDITIONS FOR A NEW MUSICAL, “Mr. Mambo,” will take place at Shooting Star Dance Center, 1196 Parker St., Springfield on Friday, April 8, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sunday, April 10, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. A resume and a head shot are required, along with music for an upbeat song and a ballad. Auditions will be for those between the ages of 15 and 25. “Mr. Mambo” will show on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton. Email:

SILVERTHORNE THEATER COMPANY is a professional summer theater organization performing in Greenfield. They are seeking actors for its third season. SENIORITY DANCE COMPANY at the Greenfield Senior Center invites dancers for the start of the spring season. SDC, under the direction of Kathy Steinem, is a high-quality mixed-age adult group that performs a variety of dance styles including contemporary, jazz and modern. The group meets for class and rehearsals Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. at the center starting March 23. Musicians

THE PIONEER VALLEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA has openings for the following instruments: Oboe (principal), e-flat clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon (contra), double bass and percussion. The PVSO is a semiprofessional community orchestra that rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings in Hadley from September through May. The PVSO gives six to seven performances in Greenfield, Northampton, Amherst and other locations in the Pioneer Valley annually. Playwrights

SILVERTHORNE THEATER COMPANY is sponsoring a competition to select a new play by a local playwright of color for possible production during the 2017 season. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 1, 2016. Complete information about the contest may be found at www.silverthornetheater.org/new-play-competition2.html A reading committee of five members, headed by veteran Montague writer/actor Kent Alexander, will review all submissions. Three finalists will be selected for  public staged readings in November and December, with the final competition winner announced on Dec. 30. Play submissions must be full length (90 minutes to two hours running time); they  must not have been previously fully produced. Playwrights of color (defined as non-white) who live or study in the Connecticut Valley/Western Massachusetts region are solely eligible to submit plays.
