GREENFIELD — The 63-year-old Greenfield man charged with an unarmed robbery of the Bank of America Friday morning was arrested before he even left the parking lot.
Police say they found Gary Parker, 63, of 8 Lilac Court, sitting in a Ford Mustang after the robbery, and identified him by his clothing, which matched a description witnesses gave police.
According to Greenfield Detective Sgt. Dan McCarthy’s incident report, Parker walked into the bank at 208 Federal St. around 9:30 a.m. with a note explaining his purpose and a request for the bank teller to give him $1,415 in cash. He apologized to the teller, put the money in a gray Wal-Mart plastic bag and retreated to his car.
Parker was ordered by the District Court judge during his Friday afternoon arraignment to be held at the Franklin County jail on a $10,000 bail.
Parker said he had been planning the heist for a few days after admitting to the crime, according to court documents.
He is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. on May 3 for a judge hearing.
The judge requested a mental health evaluation to ensure he will be capable to stand trial.
The bank was closed the rest of the day on Friday and was set to reopen for its normal operating hours from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
