As a long-time resident of the town of Montague (I was born here, 44 years ago), I want to express my thoughts regarding the negative posts I’ve seen. I AM FOR HILLSIDE PLASTICS’ EXPANSION. The idea that all those who love Country Creemee should stand up against Hillside Plastics (HP) and have their voice heard is childish. HP is engaging in sound business practice.

Personally, I enjoy the ice cream, the subs are fantastic, and it is a good, practical location. However, the owners of the creemee have been leasing this location, at the WILL of HP. HP started as a smaller business, and has grown. That is a very good thing for this community. In the past, Montague has been the home of thriving industries, including paper mills, tool companies, and textile production. As time marched on, many of those original industries have moved or closed their doors.

At this time, Montague needs to stand up and embrace the growth HP is providing. Who are we as a community to conclude that we deserve to have a place to get ice cream? Yes, I like ice cream, but not at this expense. HP has chosen this time to expand. Let’s applaud the success and come back to reality. They are a stimulus to our economy. I hear of so many that are unable to get/find employment. Are we so ignorant to think that we can have our economy improve and inhibit growth, too? That’s having your cake and eating it, too. It is a childish endeavor.

The creemee has been something that we enjoy and many are active consumers of the product. What we don’t see is that HP product is an item we are not often in the market for. That creates an environment in which we appear to have no need for HP, and we have become comfortable that HP is not an active player in our lives. We see the product, but most wouldn’t know that product is from HP, since our focus is on the product it contains. Face it, most of us love local maple products. However, we don’t go out to buy the plastic bottles, we go for the sweetness contained therein.

I STAND WITH HILLSIDE PLASTICS, AND WISH THEM WELL. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO THE SAME.
