GREENFIELD — An Orange resident was transported by ambulance to Baystate Franklin Medical Center around 4:05 p.m. after driving his 2001 silver Saab 93 though a gap in a guardrail on Route 2 near Factory Hollow Road.

Greenfield Police Sgt. David Rice said the driver and sole occupant suffered minor injuries and is “a very lucky young man.”

He was traveling east on the bypass at a high speed without a seatbelt when he crossed the center lines — almost hitting another vehicle head on — and struck a guardrail. The car overturned in midair and landed on its tires.

“It’s definitely an area the local and state police are going to keep an eye on for speeding,” Rice said.

Both lanes were closed to through traffic for 30 minutes as the Greenfield police and fire department, Gill police and state police investigated. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
