In reply to the gentleman from Heath (Feb. 14): Nice try, but your letter missed the most important points of my challenge.
You failed to address the facts of how much CO2 is generated during the manufacturing, transportation and installation of solar panels, wind turbines and electric vehicles.
Before these devices become operational they have a negative CO2 rating.
It will take many years or decades for the devices to “work off” this deficit. When their useful life is over, these devices have to be destroyed and/or recycled, thus creating more CO2 emissions.
So my point was a simple equation: CO2 produced at installation plus CO2 “saved” during life-cycle and CO2 produced to destroy and recycle equals more CO2 is generated than saved.
In regards to your 97 percent comment: Ninety-seven percent of what? Consensus is not science. So call me part of the 3 percent, just don’t call me late for supper.
One of my hobbies is reading as much as I can about science and technology. But unlike many people who live here in the Valley, I keep my mind open to ponder and comprehend others who know more than me.
