GREENFIELD — City Councilors Lora Wondolowski and John Garrett were both voted into leadership roles Tuesday night, with the council voting unanimously to appoint Wondolowski president and Garrett vice president.

Holding up her copy of “Robert’s Rules of Order,” Wondolowski, the sole nominee for the City Council presidency, voiced her gratitude to her fellow councilors for nominating her after only a year of service on the council. Precinct 2 Councilor Rachel Gordon nominated Wondolowski.

“I just want to say I’m humbled, having only been on the council for a year,” Wondolowski said. “We’ve got a great council working together and with the role of president, I look forward to helping the process — making sure the good work of this city can continue to happen in a way that makes sense, is transparent and works well for everybody. ... My only agenda is making sure that we all can work well together.”

Garrett, who has also completed his first year on the council after being elected in 2023, was nominated by At-Large Councilor Michael Terounzo for the vice presidency.

Wondolowski will be taking the seat formerly held by Precinct 4 Councilor John Bottomley, who was named council president last year. Garrett, on the other hand, will be taking the seat previously held by Precinct 6 Councilor Sheila Gilmour.

Before the unanimous vote to approve his nomination, Garrett said he was honored to serve in the council’s leadership and help Wondolowski carry out her goals.

“I am also similarly honored, having been on council only for a year, to be tasked to do this work,” Garrett said. “I see the role as supporting Councilor Wondolowski in what she’s trying to do, which is to help everybody on this council work great together. What I see this role doing is supporting and making sure that we all are able to do what we are hoping to try to do to help people in the city.”
