Renovations planned at Cowell Gymnasium

SHELBURNE — Cowell Gymnasium at 51 Maple St. will soon get a fresh new look, now that the Selectboard has approved $12,490 for painting and fencing work.

The Selectboard received multiple bids and reviewed them during a meeting last week. Contracts were awarded to Renaissance Painting of Montague for $5,650 and Hastie Fence Co. of Agawam for $6,840.

Oct. 20: Rowe Fall-A-Palooza Social

ROWE — Celebrate fall with family and friends at the Rowe Fall-A-Palooza Social on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rowe Town Library, 318 Zoar Road.

The event will feature fall-themed activities, including a macaroni and cheese cook-off, a scarecrow contest and historic cemetery tours.

Sen. Mark’s staff holding office hours

BUCKLAND — State Sen. Paul Mark’s staff will hold office hours on Tuesdays, Oct. 8 and Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon at Buckland Town Hall, located at 17 State St.

Residents of any of the 57 municipalities in the Berkshire, Hampden, Franklin and Hampshire District are encouraged to share ideas on current or potential state legislation, or to ask for assistance with issues involving any state agency. Appointments are not required.

Oct. 13: Colonial Day at Wilder Homestead

BUCKLAND — Community members are invited to step into the past and see how residents of the Wilder Homestead lived during the colonial era as part of Colonial Day on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 2 to 5 p.m.

The homestead at 129 Ashfield Road (Route 112) will be open and showcasing life in the American colonies. Attendees of Colonial Day can enjoy demonstrations and try their hand at cross stitching, spinning, cider pressing and open hearth cooking. There will also be farm animals, music from the 1700s and a performance of Morris dancing. The saltbox home and shoemaker shop will be open for tours.
