Aug. 11: Buckland Historical Society hosting open house

BUCKLAND — The Buckland Historical Society will host open houses at the Wilder Homestead, located at 129 Route 112, and at its museum, located at 20 Upper St., on Sunday, Aug. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Wilder Homestead will be open for tours showcasing the furnished 1795 saltbox home, the circa 1798 English barn currently being restored and the circa 1820 shoemaker shop. The museum will display town records and artifacts related to clothing, education and industries such as weaving and shoemaking.

Doughnut sale to support Bright Spot Therapy Dogs

SHELBURNE — Bright Spot Therapy Dogs is coming to Apex Orchards on Sunday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a “Donuts for Dogs Fundraiser.”

In addition to doughnuts, vendors will also be selling dog treats and toys. There will be food from Steve’s Weiner Wagon and drinks from Hitchcock Brewing Co. Fifty percent of proceeds will support Bright Spot Therapy Dogs.

Classic car show returns to Apex Orchards

SHELBURNE — Apex Orchards will host its third annual classic car show on Sunday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Attendees can peruse a collection of antique vehicles and enjoy face painting, yard games, contests and raffles. Sean Callahan will provide music. There will also be food from Steve’s Weiner Wagon and drinks from Hitchcock Brewing Co., in addition to Apex Orchard’s cider doughnuts.

SHELBURNE FALLS — St. Joseph’s Parish will host a tag sale on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 34 Monroe Ave.

Various goods, including jewelry, books, home goods and furniture, will be available for purchase. There will also be a bake sale, teacup auction, and raffles for gift cards and cash prizes.

The church will be accepting donated items to sell until Thursday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m. For more information, call St. Joseph’s Parish at 413-625-6405.

Colrain resident graduates from Dickinson College

CARLISLE, Pa. — Colrain resident Fiona Winifred Tierney graduated cum laude from Dickinson College with a bachelor’s degree in sociology on May 19.

The daughter of Charles Tierney and Gina Onuscho also made the dean’s list at Dickinson College. She graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School in 2019.

Griswold Memorial Library honored in Washington D.C.

COLRAIN — Griswold Memorial Library representatives traveled to Washington D.C. last week to be honored at the annual Institute of Museum and Library Services’ national awards ceremony.

The library is one of 10 recipients of the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, given to five museums and five libraries that make significant and exceptional contributions to their communities.

The ceremony was held at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum on Tuesday, July 30.
