WARWICK — A police investigation that closed Hastings Heights Road overnight from approximately 7 p.m. last Tuesday to noon Wednesday involved a search for a missing woman from Keene, New Hampshire.
Keene Police Det. Joel Chidester said in an interview Tuesday afternoon that the ongoing investigation has been underway for more than a week. When asked if there was any suspicion of foul pay or malice in the woman’s disappearance, Chidester referred to that detail as “something that the investigation is seeking to discover.”
Residents on Hastings Heights Road reported seeing ambulances, as well as local and state police vehicles across their street last week as both Massachusetts and New Hampshire police assisted with the investigation.
Resident Amy Ross described a number of local and state emergency response vehicles blocking off a portion of the street overnight. She said a Warwick Police Officer rang her doorbell and asked if she had a security camera.
“I thought my neighbor was hurt,” Ross said Monday. “There were ambulances, a fire truck, they blocked the street.”
According to Massachusetts State Police Trooper Brandon Doherty, Keene Police advised the Athol Barracks “of the possibility of a missing person” in the area of Hastings Heights and Athol roads at approximately 7 p.m.
Doherty wrote in a statement sent to the Recorder Friday that Crime Scene Services and the Hampshire and Franklin State Police Detective Units were contacted to respond to the scene.
“At no time was there any threat to public safety. No further information could be released at this time,” Northwestern District Attorney’s Office Director of Communication Laurie Loisel wrote in a statement released Friday.
