SHELBURNE FALLS — The community can expect to see the Shelburne Falls Military Band, a Humvee, riders on horseback, fire trucks, floats and children riding decorated bicycles proceeding through the village streets on Thursday in celebration of Independence Day.

Participants in the annual Fourth of July parade will line up on Conway Street at 10:30 a.m. and will step off at 11:30 a.m. After traveling through the main portion of both Shelburne and Buckland, the parade will end at Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School, where there will be a car show and a chicken barbecue put on by the Shelburne Grange.

Steven Finck, who has been “deeply involved” with organizing the event for more than two decades, said anyone is welcome to bring a float. He also encourages kids to come with decorated bikes. However, he advised children may want earplugs due to the loud sirens of the emergency vehicles in the parade.

“Anybody who has a float can put a float in, anybody who wants to decorate a bike [is] more than welcome,” Finck said. “It’s a small-town parade to celebrate the anniversary of our country.”
