Track roundup: Mohawk Trail opens season with sweep over Franklin Tech/Turners Falls (PHOTOS)

The spring track and field season official got underway in Franklin County on Thursday, with the Mohawk Trail boys coming away with a 103-41 victory over Franklin Tech in Buckland.
Chay Mojallali took first in the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches), shot put (34-5) and discus (111-2) while Tanner Biagini won the long jump (19-4.25) and the 100 neters (11.6 seconds) and Peter Healy took the 800 (two minutes, 14.9 seconds) and the 2 mile (10:36.9) for Mohawk Trail.
Rounding out the Warrior winner were Tristan Feinstein in the pole vault (7-6), Crimson Helenek in the javelin (121-2), Rex Kuoppala in the mile (5:02.4), Emerson Spence in the 400 (57.3) and Noah Colby in the 400 hurdles (76.4). Mohawk Trail also won the 4x100 (48.3) and 4x400 (4:06.6) relays.
For Franklin Tech, Josiah Little won the triple jump (35-6), Wyatt Whitman took the 110 hurdles (22.0) and Sam Bodenstein won the 200 (24.9).
In the girls meet against Turners Falls in Buckland on Thursday, Mohawk Trail walked away with a 97.5-37.5 triumph behind wins from Zephyr Jetzon in the long jump (14-4), triple jump (30-0) and 200 (28.9) while Natalie Lanoue won the high jump (4-6) and 2 mile (13:42).
Other winners for the Warriors were Avery Johnston in shot put (26-10.5), Morgan Raffa in javelin (94-0), Heidi Helenek in the 100 hurdles (19.0) and 400 (69.2), Virginia Krezmien in the mile (5:44.2), Sofiya Slocik-Gritzner in the 400 hurdles (1:23.9) and Naomi den Ouden in the 800 (2:52). Mohawk Trail also won the 4x400 relay (4:54.5).
For Turners, Tristan Bliss won the discus (92-5), Jakhia Williams took the 100 (13.3) while the Thunder won the 4x100 relay (57.4).

Pioneer 82, Athol 22 — The Redhawks walked away with a pair of victories in South Deerfield on Thursday, as Lilly Novak took first in the shot put (30-8) and the discus (102-11) while Josie Fosnot won the 400 (64.6) and the 200 (29.0).

Rounding out the winners for Frontier were Maia Christensen in the high jump (4-10), Elsa Brown in the pole vault (8-0), Sylvie DiBartolomeo in the mile (5:56.9), Addie Morrey in the 800 (2:39.5) and Liv Christensen in the 2 mile (14:29.3). The Redhawks also won the 4x400 relay (4:47.9).
For Pioneer, Sahana Heilman had a big day winning the triple jump (32-2.5), long jump (14-8) and the 100 hurdles (17.2). Natalie Rios took the javelin (101-9), Daniela Teaca won the 100 (13.6) while Emmanuelle Flagollet took the 400 hurdles (75.1).
The Panthers won the 4x100 relay in 52.8 seconds, good enough for a new school record set by the quartet of Heilman, Teaca, Emmanuelle Flagollet and Louise Flagollet. It was the fourth school record for that crew over the past year, including two indoor marks and a 4x400 outdoor relay time last spring.
Athol’s Karleigh Chase had the top mark in the discus against Pio neer.
Frontier 111, Pioneer 27
Frontier 96, Athol 42 — The Redhawks earned a pair of wins over the Panthers and Bears on Thursday, as Frontier’s Adrien Pazmandy won the pole vault (10-0), 110 hurdles (19.6), 200 (24.0) and the 400 (52.3).
Other Redhawk winners were Ian Paciorek in the 100 (12.0), Evan Hedlund in the mile (5:15.8), Gus Radner in the 400 hurdles (76.3), Charles Dennis in the 800 (2:19.6). The Redhawks also won the 4x100 (49.1) and 4x400 (3:54.1) relays.
Athol winners were Nicholas LeBlanc in discus (124-4) and shot put (45-6.75), Karim Thompson in the triple jump (37-5.5) and Ethan Goodwin in the long jump (18-6.5), high jump (5-8) and javelin (138-8).
