After big performances at the sectional championships last weekend, 14 Recorder area wrestlers qualified and will be making the trip to Foxborough High School on Friday and Saturday to compete in the MIAA Division 3 Championship meet.

Athol, Franklin Tech, Frontier, Mahar and Mohawk Trail will all be represented on Friday, with the top four placers at each sectional tournament comprising the 16 athletes in each weight class at states.

The Eagles — which captured the first sectional team championship in program history on Saturday at the Div. 3 West Sectional, becoming the first Franklin County school to win a sectional title since Frontier did so in 1978 — had two wrestlers take home individual sectional titles and both will enter Friday as top-four seeds in their respective brackets.

Carsten Couture took first place at 120 pounds at sectionals and is the No. 4 seed at Div. 3 states. He’ll square off against Gloucester’s Jayden Chadwick to open the day.

Fellow Eagle Landon Purington also captured a sectional title, which got him seeded No. 4 at 132. He’ll take on Weston’s Jasaad Rogers in his first match on Friday.

A total of seven Franklin Tech wrestlers will be competing in Foxborough on Friday. Collin Eddy, Jackson Morey and Dillon Laffond each finished second at sectionals. Eddy enters Friday as the No. 10 seed at 190, Morey the No. 10 seed at 215 and Laffond the No. 5 seed at 285.

Maxon Brunette is the No. 12 seed at 126 while Travis Eastman is the No. 12 seed at 165 for the Eagles. Both placed third at sectionals.

Franklin Tech wasn’t the only local school with a sectional champion at the Div. 3 West meet last week. Mohawk Trail's Logan Moore took home the title at 157 and he enters Friday as the No. 4 seed in the bracket. He’ll take on Ludlow’s Brady Trahan to start the event.
