Softball: Franklin Tech pulls away from Hopkins, 8-3 (PHOTOS)

Leading 4-3 after three innings, the Franklin Tech softball team took control in the final four frames on Friday against Hopkins Academy.
The Eagles scored three in the fourth and tacked a run on in the sixth while Hannah Gilbert shut the Golden Hawks down for the final four innings, helping Tech earn an 8-3 Franklin County League East victory in Hadley.
“We made a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes and could have played better defensively,” Eagles coach Joe Gamache said. “We got a solid pitching performance and some timely hits. We did enough to get the win.”
Gilbert struck out 14 and scattered three hits in seven innings work in the circle while adding a double and three RBIs at the plate. Kait Trudeau cracked three hits, Jenna Petrowicz singled, doubled and drove in a run, Lilly Ross tallied two hits and an RBI while Lilianna Inman singled and tripled for the Eagles (11-1).
Athol 11, Mahar 2 — Bears hurler Jaylynn Chapalonis limited the Senators to just three hits while walking four and striking out 12, helping Athol walk away with a Franklin County League East win over rival Mahar on Friday in Athol.
Chapalonis added a single, a double and an RBI at the plate while Celia Fox recorded a pair of hits and RBIs for the Bears. Gianna Vaillancourt smashed a double that knocked in two runs, Ally Robertson and Abby Lutz each recorded a hit and an RBI while Tapanga Chapalonis drove in two runs in the victory.
Alivia Patch cracked two hits, Avery Savage smashed a double while Laura McGinnis struck out six for the Sens.
Turners 8, Mohawk Trail 7 — The Warriors scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game 7-7, but the Thunder had an answer in the seventh.

Anne Kolodziej walked and Autumn Thornton drove her in with a base hit to give Turners the lead and Mohawk Trail was unable to answer in the bottom of the frame, as the Thunder pulled out an independent win in Buckland on Friday.
Janelle Massey tripled, Holly Myers cracked a single and a double while Kolodziej, Mia Marigliano, Addison Talbot, Marilyn Abarua and Madisyn Dietz hit safely for Turners.
Addie Loomis knocked a double and a single, Riley Giard hit a triple while Abi Dobias and Abby Moffatt hit safely for the Warriors.
Greenfield 4, Wahconah 0 — The Green Wave made it eight wins in a row on Friday, knocking off the Warriors in a Franklin County League West contest at Vets Field.
It was Greenfield’s fourth win of the week and third in three days. The Green Wave improved to 10-1 on the season.

Mount Greylock 5, Turners 4 — The Mounties rallied to score three in the top of the seventh and the Thunder were unable to answer in the bottom of the frame, with Greylock pulling out a comeback Franklin County League West win at Gary Mullins Field on Thursday.
Madi Liimatainen struck out seven and added a hit and an RBI at the plate for Turners. Mia Marigliano, Madisyn Dietz, Addison Talbot and Ella Kolodziej hit safely in the loss.
