Pioneer boys snag No. 1 seed as basketball, hockey brackets released for MIAA tournaments

The MIAA released its boys basketball, girls basketball and hockey brackets on Saturday, with the state tournaments getting underway beginning Monday.
As it has been all year, the Pioneer boys basketball team came in as the top seed in the Div. 5 bracket, where it awaits the winner of No. 32 Prospect Hill Academy and No. 33 Bethany Christian in the Round of 32.
Also in the Div. 5 boys bracket, Mahar enters as the No. 10 seed and will host the winner of No. 23 Boston United and No. 42 PVCICS in the Round of 32.
Athol earned the No. 20 seed, where it will host No. 45 Saint John Paul II in the preliminary round. The winner of that game travel to No. 13 Hoosac Valley in the Round of 32.
Greenfield and Frontier both made it into the Div. 4 boys field and will be hosting games in the preliminary round.
The Green Wave are the No. 26 seed and will host No. 39 Maimonides School in their prelim game, with the winner advancing to face No. 7 Lunenburg.
The Redhawks are seeded 32nd and will host No. 33 Assabet Valley in the preliminary round. The winner of that contest takes on top-seeded Albert D. Holland in the Round of 32.

A stellar regular season earned the Frontier girls basketball team a spot in the Div. 4 Round of 32, with the Redhawks earning the No. 13 seed.
Frontier will host the winner of No. 20 Manchester Essex and No. 45 Sturgis Charter West in the Round of 32.
Mahar, Greenfield and Mohawk Trail all made it into the Div. 5 girls bracket.
The Senators are the No. 24 seed and will host No. 41 Ruth Batson Academy in the preliminary round, the winner of that earning a trip to No. 9 Lee in the Round of 32.
Greenfield will also be hosting a prelim game, as the No. 27 Green Wave will host No. 38 Baystate Academy in the preliminary round. The winner of that will face No. 6 Saint John Paul II in the Round of 32.
Mohawk Trail is the No. 39 seed in the bracket and are on the road to face No. 26 Holbrook in the preliminary round. The winner of that will face No. 7 Douglas in the Round of 32.
On the ice, the Greenfield hockey team earned the No. 17 seed in the Div. 4 field. It will be on the road to take on 16th-seeded Sandwich in its Round of 32 contest.
