WENDELL — Voters approved an additional Annual Town Meeting warrant article on Wednesday, 2½ weeks after tabling the issue and continuing the meeting.
Residents who showed up to Wendell Town Hall voted in favor of Article 13, to allow the town to appropriate $246,122 from the special revenue fund designated for Connect America Fund Phase II disbursements for payment of the fiscal year 2025 debt service in the broadband project. Town Administrator Glenn Johnson-Mussad previously explained Wendell could not vote on the article on June 8 because Wendell did not yet have the funds in hand.
WENDELL — STEM Tuesdays are slated for the Wendell Free Library on July 9, 16, 23 and 30, each starting at 3 p.m.
Folks are invited to try out the library’s new problem-solving kits from Lakeshore Learning. There are new kits every week. No registration is necessary, but it is best suited for children 6 to 11 years old. Younger siblings, however, are always welcome.
ORANGE — The Selectboard this week appointed Larry Delaney, the superintendent of highway, cemeteries and parks, to head the transfer station as well.
Town Administrator Matthew Fortier said he has been in talks with Delaney, who agreed to take on this added responsibility. Fortier explained that various budget cuts mean the town is unable to employ a full-time manager at the Orange Recycling Center/Transfer Station, and the budget contains no funding for the facility. He said Delaney has landfill and transfer station experience “and it’s well within his wheelhouse to oversee the folks that work at the transfer station.”
“Congratulations, you have another hat to wear,” Vice Chair Pat Lussier, who chaired Wednesday’s Selectboard meeting in the absence of Tom Smith, told Delaney after the unanimous vote from her, Clerk Andrew Smith and member Julie Davis.
