Brown Bag Program held monthly

ORANGE — The Orange Brown Bag Program is held on the third Wednesday of the month at St. Mary’s Parish Center at 10 West Myrtle St. from 10 a.m. to noon.

The next program is scheduled for Feb. 19. The Brown Bag Program is for people ages 55 and older who meet certain income guidelines.

Inspections due in New Salem

NEW SALEM — The town is due for a round of inspections to bring all parcel visits within a rolling 10-year window.

Derek Grueter, of Regional Resource Group, the contractor that provides assessment services to town inspectors, will start the inspections this month, according to New Salem News. Grueter has a silver Nissan Murano that will be labeled with magnet signs. Grueter has an identification badge with him during the visits, which may include inspections inside homes.

‘4th Friday Film’ series starting

NEW SALEM — The “4th Friday Film” series at the New Salem Public Library will start Jan. 24, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The first film of the series will be “A New Leaf,” a 1971 comedy starring Walter Matthau and Elaine May. Popcorn and water will be provided.

NEW SALEM — The New Salem Public Library will host a free workshop aimed at helping people connect with their bodies and empower themselves. It is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Holistic practitioner Shell Hines will share the wisdom of new and ancient healing modalities, shiatsu (a form of Japanese bodywork), meditation, Qigong, Earth-based wellness practices, singing, drumming, dancing, writing and more. Through relaxing practices (visualization, and sound and energy exercises) participants will explore how to maintain well-being.

Quabbin Valley Pro Musica holding winter concert

ATHOL — Quabbin Valley Pro Musica will hold its winter concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Athol Congregational Church, located at 1225 Chestnut St.

The concert will consist of Mozart’s “Requiem.” Geoffrey Hudson directs the singers of Quabbin Valley Pro Musica, accompanied by two pianists.

Quabbin Valley Pro Musica is a chorus open to singers of all ages, genders and musical backgrounds. Since 1993, it has been the resident chorus of the 1794 Meetinghouse in New Salem. It consists of 20 singers from across the Pioneer Valley and North Quabbin region.

Quabbin Valley Pro Musica meets on Monday nights in New Salem and typically performs concerts in January or February and June.
