SUNDERLAND — The Zoning Board of Appeals will continue the public hearing on a proposed 9,100-square-foot retail building that is expected to house a Dollar General at the corner of Route 116 and Clark Mountain Road on Wednesday, May 28.
Upon convening last Thursday, ZBA Chair Steven Krol told residents the hearing was being postponed at the request of the applicant, Calito Development Group, a Torrington, Connecticut-based construction and management group, to give them more time to collect data and answer questions that were raised by the board at an earlier hearing in February. The delay will also allow for the Planning Board to schedule its own public hearing on the proposed retail building.
In February, ZBA members raised concerns over traffic and safety on the busy state highway, and requested that Calito Development Group conduct a traffic study. Krol said Thursday that the group is still collecting data.
Calito Development Group’s plans entail the creation of a retail store with up to 46 parking spaces on an approximately 3-acre parcel of land with curb cuts on Route 116 and Clark Mountain Road. The developer, Gary Eucalitto, previously said his company has broad experience in developing retail stores for decades and this building’s expected tenant is Dollar General.
The ZBA will reconvene on Wednesday, May 28, at 7 p.m. at the Sunderland Town Offices on School Street.
