The premise behind the Netflix series “Love Is Blind” is simple: fall in love and commit to marrying someone before you ever see them.
The casting agency for “Love Is Blind,” Kinetic Content Casting, is looking for New England singles who are looking for long-term commitment in a non-conventional setting, including those from western Massachusetts.
“We try to find the best ensemble of 15 men and 15 women who are ready to experience something that is very unique, and that is finding their forever partner through a wall,” says Donna Driscoll, executive vice president of casting and talent at Kinetic Content Casting.
Although no cast member of the show’s six seasons to date has been a western Mass resident, the most recent season of the show had cast member Amber Smith who lived in Boston before being cast in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was a captain for the New England Patriots Cheerleaders.
This is the first time that “Love is Blind” has held open castings in New England.
The show centers around an ensemble of 30 single men and women who date those of the opposite sex in “pods” where they can only hear each other. Driscoll describes the show as “an experiment” that takes physical appearance out of the dating process.
“The experiment works,” Driscoll said.
Only when couples mutually agree to become engaged are they able to meet each other face-to-face.

Within the six seasons the show has aired since 2020, Driscoll reports that nine couples have remained married.
To ensure that the participants have the best chance of finding love, Driscoll explains that the casting process takes into account factors like a person’s intent to commit to a long-term relationship, an open and vulnerable personality and the time commitment required for completing auditions and filming.
Kinetic Content Casting uses several rounds of interviews to select participants for each season. Driscoll says that the show looks for men and women of all backgrounds above the age of 21, so long as they are willing to commit to the long-term relationship and are willing to be open to the experience.
Having done casting in New England for a dating TV show previously, Driscoll says she thinks that people from New England make successful candidates for shows like this because of their genuine nature.
“The one thing that I can say about New England and Massachusetts is that there’s a level of authenticity, and people are kind and loving,” Driscoll said. From her experience, authenticity and the ability to be vulnerable is what sets participants up for success in the pods.
“Those characteristics are truly what it takes for people to be successful in this experiment,” Driscoll said.
“We give you the opportunity to tell us why you would like to participate,” she said of the application process. Applicants are also encouraged to provide more than yes and no responses to questions. “Utilize the time with the casting team every chance you get,” she adds.
