Pancake breakfast planned in Montague Center

MONTAGUE CENTER — Homemade pancakes and real maple syrup will be served Saturday, March 29, from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Montague at 4 North St.

Guests can have a dine-in meal of pancakes and syrup alongside breakfast meats, coffee, tea and juice. The cost is $10.

March 30: French/Breton jam session

TURNERS FALLS — The Great Falls Discovery Center at 2 Avenue A will host a French/Breton jam session on Sunday, March 30, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

An informal group of musicians of all ages gathers to play traditional dance music from France and Brittany, known as bal folk. The program is intended as less of a performance and more of a gathering of friends with musical interests. The event is free and open to the public.

April 12: Toddler shoemaking class

TURNERS FALLS — A shoemaking workshop will teach attendees how to make simple shoes for toddlers on Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m. at the Greenfield Savings Bank branch at 282 Avenue A.

The class will be led by shoemaker Sharon Raymond, who works in her studio in Shutesbury. Raymond teaches participants how to make simple shoes and also offers workshops on making use of the scrap leather generated by her years of business.

All materials will be provided and light refreshments will be served.

Gill-Montague food drive accepting donations

MONTAGUE — Gill-Montague Regional School District’s ninth annual food drive is underway. The district is seeking nonperishable foods to line the shelves of The Heartwing Center’s food pantry in Turners Falls.

Nonperishable foods in cans, jars and sealed packages will be accepted, as well as personal hygiene items. Expired items will not be accepted.

Every elementary school in the district, as well as Great Falls Middle School and Turners Falls High School, will accept in-person donations that can be dropped off during school hours. The Montague Public Safety Complex at 180 Turnpike Road is also accepting donations.

This food drive will continue through April 4.

Comedian, writer to judge Easter bonnet contest

ERVING — Martin Gitlin, a comedian and pop culture author, will judge an Easter bonnet contest at the Erving Senior & Community Center on Thursday, April 17, at noon.

Awards for first, second and third place will be decided by Gitlin. Brunch and mocktails will be served, and attendees can participate in sitcom-themed trivia.

Space is limited. People must sign up by Friday, April 11, by calling 413-423-3649.
