Unnameable Books hosting concert

TURNERS FALLS — Weathervane Community Arts will present a double-bill of local and touring singer-songwriters at Unnameable Books at 66 Avenue A on Friday, Jan. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Opening the show will be Call Me Bea, an original music project by Bea Maxwell. Maxwell is a non-binary, queer and Jewish Amherst-based performer-composer who draws influences from jazz and indie rock.

Headlining will be Ramon & Jessica. Known off-stage as Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist Dina Maccabee and local composer Jesse Olsen Bay, Ramon & Jessica incorporates sweet vocal harmonies, violin, guitar, ukulele and toy instruments into a tapestry of songs and sounds.

School Committee has open seat for Montague resident

MONTAGUE — There is an open Gill-Montague Regional School District School Committee seat for a Montague resident.

Interested Montague residents should email Executive Assistant Tara McCarthy at tara.mccarthy@gmrsd.org, or send a letter to Tara McCarthy, 35 Crocker Ave., Turners Falls, MA 01376, by Monday, Jan. 27, so the committee can consider potential candidates during its meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Weekly knitting offered at Erving Public Library

ERVING — Starting Sunday, Feb. 2, and continuing on the first Sunday of each month until April, there will be a knitting session in the Erving Public Library’s Makerspace starting at 11 a.m.

The class, “Knitting with Ben,” is open to ages 6 and up, with a caretaker required for participants ages 10 and under. Registration is required ahead of time with 10 spots available. To register, call 413-423-3348.

‘Stop the Bleed’ class planned in Gill

GILL — The Gill Police, Fire and Emergency Management departments have announced a free “Stop the Bleed” class will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m.

This one-hour class will focus on teaching the public basic skills to stop traumatic bleeding using a variety of techniques and equipment. Uncontrolled bleeding remains the No. 1 cause of preventable death.

The class is open to and appropriate for residents ages 16 and older, with first preference given to Gill residents. All supplies are provided and students will be sent a certificate following the class.
