ORANGE — This year’s Dinner by the River is responsible for getting the band back together.
The Millers River Band, formed in 1991 when two Ralph C. Mahar Regional School teachers approached Ann and Terry Reed about serving as rhythm section and backup vocalists on a song, will perform at the event at Riverfront Park on East River Street at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10. There will also be an art show and a social hour with dinner served at 6 p.m.
Ann Reed explained the band last played riverside for a separate event in 1993 and she and her bandmates reunited every so often when asked.
“It’s just fun. It’s just one reunion after another,” she said. “There will be some new songs in the mix.”
The Millers River Band plays original, traditional and popular American roots music, with Ann Reed on drums, her husband Terry on bass and harmonica, Gino LoRicco on banjo and Tom Jordan on guitar.
“We just clicked as a band,” Ann Reed recounted. “And we just kept playing together and built our repertoire.”
Dinner by the River, hosted by the Orange Revitalization Partnership, will also feature Robert Osborne, a contemporary art dealer and artist who will share his work. Dinner is prepared by Black Crow Catering and the menu features vegetarian lasagna or balsamic chicken, sides and dessert. The social hour will feature art exhibits and beverages, including local offerings by Honest Weight Artisan Beer and Home Fruit Wine.
This event is held rain or shine under tents, which are donated by Seeds of Solidarity.
