Thank you letter writer Karl Meyer for recognizing that women have been pushed aside for way too long, creating a society that does not value every human being [”Time for men to stand up for a just society,” Jan. 16]. Women are 50% or more of the world we live in and they deserve to be treated equally by men.
It is long overdue for men to step up to the plate and acknowledge their role in holding women down and creating a world that is rampant with violence. It is time for all men to speak out against the violence against women that is in the mind of every woman in the homes where they live and on the streets where they walk, so they don’t have to automatically look over their shoulder. It is time for all men to realize women can do as good a job and often better than a man. It is time for men to live in peace and nonviolence with women.
Women should not have to have movements like the Take Back the Night back in the 1980s and the MeToo movement of the 2000s. How can our government even think of nominating a man like Pete Hegseth, who faces allegations of sexual assault, to the high position of secretary of defense?
The role of women in this world should be whatever a woman is inspired to be, and men need to start supporting this. Thank you, Mr. Meyer, for having the courage to publicly acknowledge this.
