LEYDEN — The Selectboard is seeking feedback on the town’s draft energy aggregation plan. Anyone with suggestions on what the town should consider while negotiating with energy providers can submit comments by Thursday, March 6, at 5 p.m.
The energy aggregation plan outlines how the town will work with energy consultant Colonial Power Group and the state Department of Energy Resources to create price stability and savings for Leyden residents. At the 2024 Annual Town Meeting, voters unanimously approved pursuing energy aggregation, where the town negotiates with energy suppliers and purchases electricity on behalf on its residents to pass along savings.
“The purpose of the aggregation plan is to represent consumer interests in competitive markets for electricity,” a post on the Leyden town website explains. “It brings together the buying power of more than 700 consumers.”
A copy of the plan can be found at the Town Offices at 7 Brattleboro Road as well as on the town website at townofleyden.com/n/11243/Towns-Community-Choice-Power-Supply-Program-Aggregation-Plan. After receiving feedback and making any changes, the Selectboard will vote to adopt the plan and begin discussions with energy providers.
Comments can be submitted to Town Coordinator Michele Giarusso at towncoord@townofleyden.com or by mail to Michele Giarusso, Town Coordinator, Town of Leyden, 7 Brattleboro Road, Leyden, MA 01301.
