I am eager to thank the Franklin County Continuing the Political Revolution (FCCPR) for their very fine gathering on Saturday, Jan 18 at the Second Congregational Church in Greenfield. The event was entitled “Our Projects for 2025” and it coincided with the Women’s March in Washington, D.C.

In the sanctuary, inspiring speakers shared their stories and motivations. The young people from “Twice as Smart” (an after school program directed by Greenfield’s Gloria Matlock) sang their tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., and the Raging Grannies sang out about justice for all. Speakers spoke of many critical topics, such as immigration advocate Marieange LaRoche, whose speech highlighted the fears of the Haitian community all through our Pioneer Valley.

When baskets were passed through the sanctuar, to raise money for Stone Soup Cafe, $1,400 was easily collected. So proud of our community.

After speeches, the public passed into a room where 25 local organizations were set at their tables with pamphlets, banners and enthusiasm. So exciting to see so many leaning in and learning from peace, reproductive rights, cooperatives, Indigenous rights, climate and education activists.

The attendance was inspiring. Close to 300 people came to learn about the values and actions of so many in Franklin County. The sanctuary seating was all filled, as were the walls all around. Best yet were the number of young people in attendance.

Yes! Another reason to love where I live!
