I support the Greenfield mayor’s and the Connecticut River Conservancy’s efforts to take down the two (now useless) dams on the Green River. The river has a right to flow free of human-made impediments constructed at a time when there was little understanding of the ecological damage they would cause.

The time when those dams were needed is long gone, and the Green River should be returned to its natural state. I ask the city’s Historical Commission to think back further in time than just 88 years ago. The river itself is thousands of years old, and that living history needs to be restored to its original condition.
