On Sept. 7, the trustees of the Griswold Memorial Library held their annual Colrain Fix-it Day, a free event that brings the community together for the New England tradition of helping each other repair and mend. Many commented on the unintended benefit of reconnecting with and meeting new neighbors. Thank you to Diana Parsons, town administrator, for arranging a free shuttle and using the DEP RDP funds to purchase a much needed knife sharpener. And to Colrain firefighters, Ben’s Repair, Scott Barrows Wilson Hill Carpentry, Sophie’s Bikes, Scott Palmer Ironsmite, Swanson’s Fabrics, Checkerspot Farm, Aubuchon’s, FRCOG Public Health, Colrain Historical Society, and Pine Hill for their gifts of time, skill sharing, and/or donations.

This event was paid in part by the Colrain Cultural Council. A talented team of fixers repaired over 80 items, including bicycles, jewelry, lamps, clothes, knife/tool sharpening, mixers, and more. Over 30 fixers, volunteers, and library staff generously contributed their time, skills, and goodwill to make the afternoon a tremendous success.

Nancy Turkle, Cheli Mennella, Betsy Johnson, Dago Driggs, and Mikaela Whitaker, trustees of the Griswold Memorial Library
