I am pleased to share some significant updates in our ongoing efforts to protect homeowners in Massachusetts.

One year ago, on May 25, 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court voted unanimously to abolish home equity theft. This landmark decision set a crucial precedent in safeguarding the rights of homeowners across the country.

Building on this momentum, the Massachusetts State Senate recently voted unanimously on April 30 to end home equity theft in our state. This is a tremendous step forward, and now the final action rests with the full Legislature. We eagerly anticipate their unanimous vote to send this important bill to Gov. Maura Healey for her signature, finalizing this vital protection for homeowners.

In addition to these statewide efforts, I am hopeful that the Greenfield City Council also will take a significant step in supporting our local community. Later in June 2024, we anticipate a vote on the creation of an elderly/disabled property tax fund. This fund aims to help prevent vulnerable homeowners in our city from sliding into foreclosure, providing them with the support they need to remain in their homes.

When a thing is truly worth doing, let’s do it unanimously!
