Walking in others’ shoes should be a lesson taught in all schools. This could teach empathy and compassion for what others might be going through. Sometimes we need to see and feel what others have gone through to understand and have total compassion for them.
Immigration comes to mind when I think of walking in other’s shoes. If shoes could speak, this group of people know very well the heartache and trauma of just trying to survive. Our current administration is dead set on “getting rid” of our brothers and sisters. They’re currently sending people back to horrible situations while also not letting others in who are in grave danger. They tell us “It’s complicated.” I say it’s cruel and inhumane. It only appears complicated because we’re so entitled.
Because of massive entitlement, most people in this country wouldn’t last a day in an immigrant’s shoes. Most people never think deeply as to what an immigrant might have gone through. The many miles of walking, hunger, stress, pain, thirst, doubt, insecurity, homelessness, confusion, fear, lack of sleep, and just the not-knowing. Not knowing if you’ll survive, not knowing if you can keep your kids safe. Not knowing where your next meal might come from. Not knowing if you’ll be beat up or raped. Not knowing if the country you end up in will turn its back on its own brothers and sisters.
So that’s where this country stands, turning its back on its own brothers and sisters who are in desperate need. This is a true test for all the souls out there who currently lack empathy. Will you continue to sell your soul in the name of division and entitlement, or will you set your soul free by welcoming our brothers and sisters instead? It’s your choice. Just remember, higher powers are taking note. So choose wisely. Be good, do good.
