With the snowstorm over the weekend, indoor track athletes from Athol, Frontier, Greenfield, Mahar, Mohawk Trail and Pioneer made the trip to the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Monday for the MIAA Division 5 Indoor Track & Field Championships.

All eyes were on the boys 55-meter hurdles race, as Frontier’s Ben Cachiguango and Mahar’s Mitchell Krasco entered with the top two times in the event.

Both went on to qualify for the finals, though it was Maynard’s Alexander Gwozdz who ultimately won the event with a time of 7.93 seconds. Cachiguango took third place with a time of 8.04 seconds while Krasco settled for fourth with a sprint of 8.07 seconds.

A pair of locals were also battling it out in the girls high jump on Monday.

Pioneer’s Louise Flagollet and Mahar’s Stellina Moore both hit five feet even in the event. Six girls hit that mark in the meet, though North Reading’s Callie MacLellan was the only jumper to clear 5-2, giving her first place and the state title.

Flagollet earned fourth place as she hit the 5-0 mark on her second attempt while Moore took sixth after hitting 5-0 on her third attempt. It was the second straight podium finish in the event for Flagollet, who was the runner-up in the D5 championship last winter with a leap of 5-2.

On the day, the Frontier boys placed 25th while Mahar took 27th overall as teams. On the girls side Pioneer came in 22nd while Mahar took 32nd. Weston won on the boys side while North Reading was the girls team winner on the day.
