HS Roundup: Smith Vocational girls soccer defeats Greenfield, 1-0, in Class C quarterfinals

The Greenfield girls soccer team was unable to get its offense going against fifth-seeded Smith Vocational in the quarterfinals of the Western Mass. Class C tournament on Monday.
The Viking defense held down the fourth-seeded Green Wave offense, keeping them off the scoreboard for the entire 80 minutes. Smith Vocational was able to put one in the back of the net and that’s all it needed, walking away with a 1-0 victory in Greenfield.
The Vikings advance to play top-seeded Mount Greylock while the Green Wave await their opponent in the MIAA Div. 5 state tournament.
Franklin Tech 2, Monty Tech 0 — Competing in the semifinals of the MVADA Small School Vocational Tournament on Monday, the Eagles pulled off a 2-0 victory over the Bulldogs to reach the finals.
Cammy Jacques and Kenzie Sourdiffe-Phelps had the Franklin Tech goals, with Hannah Gilbert providing an assist. Madison Markwell made six saves in the victory.
Franklin Tech will compete for the championship on Tuesday, taking on Blackstone Valley in Upton at 3:30 p.m.
Non-playoff
St. Mary’s 1, Franklin Tech 1 — The Eagles went into Monday’s non-playoff game needing a win or a tie to finish at or above .500 to earn a spot in the MIAA Div. 5 state tournament and did just that, clinching a bid with a 1-1 draw with the Saints in Turners.
