HS Roundup: Pioneer girls basketball falls in season opener to Lenox

The Lenox girls basketball team gave Pioneer all it could handle in the Panthers’ season opener on Wednesday. 

The Millionaires — winners of the Franklin County League North a season ago — built a 27-4 halftime lead to pull away with a 50-10 independent victory over the Panthers at Messer Gymnasium on Wednesday. 

Kiara Gruszkowski scored four points and pulled down eight rebounds, Natalie Rios tallied four points and nine rebounds while Deveney Pillsbury recorded two points for Pioneer. 

Boys swimming

Holyoke 79, Turners 74 — Malcolm Tyler won the 200 free (2:29.36) while Liam Bliss took the 200 IM (2:20.44) as the Thunders fell to the Purple Knights in Holyoke Wednesday. 

Malcolm Tyler, William Tyler, Tyler Galenski and Bliss won the 400 free relay (4:23.68) for Turners. 

Girls swimming

Holyoke 98, Turners 78 — Sigrid Calhoun won the dive while Lilian Walker-Hanning took the 100 breast (1:20.13) for the Thunder in a loss to the host Purple Knights on Wednesday. 

Sylvie DiBartolomeo, Avery Houle, Alice Fortin and Tristan Bliss won the 400 free relay (4:41.30) for Turners.

Renaissance 75, Mahar 22 — The Phoenix built a 34-10 halftime lead to knock off the Senators in Orange Tuesday. 

Hayden Comeau scored nine points, Julia Hatch tossed in eight points and Thea Whitmore added five points in the loss for Mahar. 

Boys basketball

Four Rivers 55, Bart 28 — Henry Schwerin scored 19 points, Cooper Whitney recorded 15 points while Meir Dragon tacked on seven points for the Otters in a victory in North Adams Tuesday. 

On Monday, Four Rivers knocked off Hartsbrook, 39-24, behind 12 points from Whitney and 11 points from Kolin Broderick.
